Character Personality: Summaries coming in threes

Here's something I've done since about 2019 when writing character personalities, which is limiting traits n' stuff to three for each section.

I got that idea from when I was playing The Sims and found out you can get a whole lot of defining personalities with limits. Limits really do get you thinking a lot more, too.

Here are the sections that I usually use this for:

Things that are related to characters' social, mental, practical abilities and stuff...

  • General behaviours (non-good/bad-specific traits, mostly)
  • Good traits (strengths, capabilities & conveniences)
  • Bad traits (weaknesses, vulnerabilities & inconveniences)
And things such as subjective opinions and stuff
  • Likes (interests/hobbies, comforts, wants, etc.)
  • Dislikes (disgusts, annoyances, fears, etc.)

And when it comes to thinking up with three traits and ideas are hard to come by, or things are just doubling up, I've come up with this thing that'll help differentiate the three traits in each section.
  • Personal
Something related to the character's past experiences that's shaped their current self.

  • Quirk
This one's a bit random and usually not important to the story/character's experiences/etc. It gives more personality and a sense of realness.

  • Story/Situation (in)convenient
This one's the one that does the most for the story/situations the character gets into the most. This can either be an advantage or an obstacle.
