THERE WAS ONCE A YELLOW HOUSE

UPDATE: Uploaded to another portfolio (I'm organising my things, separating my works more closely connected to things not under my alias)

One of the places on Earth that I felt about most fondly was the house placed at 23 Dudley Avenue. The address still exists, and you can find it right now if you wanted, but know that the house there now has nothing to do with me. Our old house wasn’t two-storied, nor was it so boxy and sleek. Instead, it was amusingly “L” shaped, and dressed in soft, cheerful yellow panelling.

It was nearly the end of 2009’s Winter when my family and I started living in that yellow house. Especially for me, this was very exciting. We’d only just come from somewhere a couple of flights away, and for the first time in a while, we stayed at a house that was ours – as in “just for us” – meaning we were relieved of the concern of having anyone else around.

Whale Fall

UPDATE: Uploaded to another portfolio (I'm organising my things, separating my works more closely connected to things not under my alias)

Whales are one of the greatest creatures on Earth.

If I asked you to tell me anything about a whale - the one thing that makes them most unique - I know first you would mention its size.

I live by myself. Metaphors for the imagination.

You live alone. But, at the same time, you are also constantly in the presence of your loved ones. How is this possible?

First, you still are being sheltered under your parents’ roof, enjoying their company. You’re also not the type who coops up in your room for much of your day. But still, you live alone. If not your home where you physically spend most of your life, where do you live? The answer is easy.

Where you live is in your mind.

Writing and Composition: Daisuke Amaya’s Cave Story (2004) and its impact on my life as an artist

UPDATE: Uploaded to another portfolio (I'm organising my things, separating my works more closely connected to things not under my alias)

Introduction

Throughout my life, I have always been interested in hobbies that involve expressing my creativity. Due to this, it would be inevitable that I would seek other art in all forms for inspiration such as visual art, literature and music. I have appreciated all sorts of creative media including many forms of visual art, literary works, and music. However, of all the art that I have experienced, the one that would inspire me the most would be in the form of a video game, being Daisuke “Pixel” Amaya’s solo project Cave Story (2004).

[UNTITLED PLAYSCRIPT] - Scene One

Here's my first attempt at writing something in a stageplay format (out side of that script writing class I took last winter). I took a little story idea that I had and decided to try to turn it into a play, which I have no idea is ever going to exist. Anyways, if I ever get this story done, this could look good in a portfolio!

SCENE ONE

FIRE SAFETY

Students of various year levels and an OSHC Staff Member are present in the room.

NARRATOR. It is 2011. Here we are at an Out of School Hours Care building. There has just been a discussion about what to do in the event of a fire and everyone's about to be let off to do their own things.

OSHC STAFF. Now everyone, that was some excellent discussion today and I'm very pleased with your cooperation. That should be about everything important to mention about what to do, but before I let you all go, are there any questions that you want to ask?

Silence.

Poems: I wrote a collection of haikus four hours before submission time closes

UPDATE: Uploaded to another portfolio (I'm organising my things, separating my works more closely connected to things not under my alias)

Ev'rywhere I've tried.
No place my mind can stay put
And do as it's told.

While I should have worked,
Instead, I wrote a haiku.
What a waste of time.

It's time to focus.
I will not write a third one.
Don't think about it.

Australian Classics: Literature and Film - Analysis of 'Train Journey' by Judith Wright

UPDATE: Uploaded to another portfolio (I'm organising my things, separating my works more closely connected to things not under my alias)

Train Journey by Judith Wright

Glassed with cold sleep and dazzled by the moon,
out of the confused hammering dark of the train
I looked and saw under the moon’s cold sheet
your delicate dry breasts, country that built my heart;

and the small trees on their uncoloured slope
like poetry moved, articulate and sharp
and purposeful under the great dry flight of air,
under the crosswise currents of wind and star.

Clench down your strength, box-tree and ironbark.
Break with your violent root the virgin rock.
Draw from the flying dark its breath of dew
till the unliving come to life in you.

Be over the blind rock a skin of sense,
under the barren height a slender dance…

I woke and saw the dark small trees that burn
suddenly into flowers more lovely than the white moon.

Analysis

Poet Judith Wright wrote Train Journey in 1953. It is a reflection of her experiences riding on trains and homage to the landscape that she sees while travelling.

Paying more attention to poetry

Since I'm currently taking on a literature course in uni (Australian Classics) and looking into poetry, I might as well talk about it here for activity's sake and share my learning experiences. For a short assignment, I'm going to analyse the poem Train Journey written by Judith Wright.

I'm already beginning my analysis :D

My tutor hinted at me that this poem may or may not have some sort of rhythm to it, so I'm going to pay some extra attention to that. And since I've considered writing poems could be something I'd do in my spare time someday, it's nice to keep things like that in mind.

Drones (Part 1)

DRONES

I
Purpose

Aster lies down on the earth. Not dead, but he’s lying still enough as if he were. Above him, there towers a huge tree. It looks like it must’ve been quite a crash for him. It must’ve been quite a fall for him, too. But, if you knew one or a few things about Aster, you’d consider this scenario quite strange, in a way. Here we have a young, winged man in armour and yet he’s made himself out to be lower than dirt. We can only assume something rather bad must’ve happened to him just then, aside from him crashing and falling from that tree, and whatever it was, it’s got him waiting for nature to just eat him up already. Swallow him whole like an earthworm does to the dirt.

Poem: And yet, the Earth still turns

UPDATE: Uploaded to another portfolio (I'm organising my things, separating my works more closely connected to things not under my alias)

They die painted with the shame of lethargy

And "ill use of time" writes the words of their grave.

Rotting beneath, honoured only by family,

And no single opus to match with their name.

One day they'll be known by no one who lives

And moments ahead, their preserved thoughts will follow.

Laugh at the ambitious with no work to give,

Whose goals fall victim to the void that swallows.

New notebook alert! :D

May I present to you the notebook containing my favourite snippets from media texts:

Bought from my local Coles and made from recycled paper which is pretty neat.

It includes, and will include snippets from fiction, poetry, songs, films, series, comics/manga, documentaries, video games, and any other media text type that I haven't mentioned. I've got a feeling this will make a pretty good place for inspiration and looking back at some of my favourite passages and whatnot for writing and all that. Here's the first entry:

Poem: Scrap Metal

A piece of scrap metal lying in the heap.
Wonder what it's doing there,
Thinking of the things it could possibly be
If it ever cared?

A piece of scrap metal lying in the heap.
At the fog and dust, it stared,
Waiting on any given opportunity
If ever there were...

Ones
To begin with at all

Yes, of course there were ones
To begin with at all

Ones to begin with at all

Narrative and Aesthetics - The narrative and aesthetic decisions of The Incredibles (2004)

UPDATE: Uploaded to another portfolio (I'm organising my things, separating my works more closely connected to things not under my alias)

It is without a doubt that over the years Disney and Pixar’s animated films have captured the hearts of many, and Brad Bird’s The Incredibles (2004) clearly makes the cut. The Incredibles is set in a universe where there exists certain people who possess superpowers. However, due to changes in the law, superheroes are made illegal, forcing supers to live and work jobs without using their powers, disguising themselves as ordinary people. The story is told from the perspective of Bob Parr, a former superhero who works at an insurance company. After eventually getting fired from his job, he grabs the opportunity to do hero work under a top secret organisation that not even his family is aware about. Soon, his wife, Helen Parr, starts to get suspicious of Bob and attempts to track him down, only to discover that he has fallen into a superhero-hunting trap organised by Syndrome, a former fan rejected by Bob. Being an animated film produced by Disney and Pixar, already audiences expect family-friendly content from the film. However, The Incredibles manages to tell a significantly more unique story than their previous works, as well as even surprise audiences by being the first Pixar feature film to receive a PG rating (Filmsite n.d)

Short Notes #1 - Horror

I like when scares in horror are actually slow. Y'know the stuff where the scare is being slowly brought over to you instead of giving you a shock. It's that feeling of dread is so chilling.

Like, I accidentally misclicked on this video and the thing that creeped me out the most was the slowly appearing veins on the screen. But, then again, there's also my sensitivity to body horror, so there's that, haha,

Attention, notebook-hoarders (and me)

Not exactly writing-related, but I've been a notebook-hoarder since I was 8 years old (I'm not lying) and I just wanted to share these ideas for notebook uses.
  • Memos & stuff:
Obvious option #1. Just a place where you can just quickly jot down anything important that you'll use sometime. Like shopping lists, basic planning, to-do lists, quick calculations if you need to work something out, etc. This can also be used when you don't have a specific notebook handy at the moment. I like to make this notebook able to fit inside a pocket.
*NOTE*
Also, I should mention: I'll be 100% honest, this can all be divided into different notebooks for organisation's sake, but for me personally, I find that all the limitations that books have for really specific uses is quite demotivating. Like, who are you to tell me where to write what specific thing, hm????? (I'm kidding, but I'm serious about the demotivation part)
